    Job Summary:

     

    The Grant Accounting Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the Grant Accounting department. This department plays a key role in supporting the Grants team during the application process and assumes primary responsibility for managing the financial relationship with the grantor upon execution of the agreement. 

     

    The position ensures ongoing compliance with all grant requirements and is responsible for the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards (GAS). Additionally, this role oversees the coordination and management of all single audit activities with external auditors. 

     

    This position is critical to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and accountability of the organization’s grant-funded activities. Additionally, this position may be responsible for designing financial models and implementation of special projects.  

     

    Essential Functions: 

     

      1. Coordinates with Grantors, Grant Department and Grant Billing Department.
      2. Create and maintain a database for tracking of all grants
      3. Develops SOPs to create efficiency and effectiveness with all grant financial activities.
      4. Actively participate in the month-end closing by compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
      5. Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP and GAS, as well as company policies and procedures.
      6. Ensure compliance with various state reporting requirements (such as Maine MAAP and Florida’s 65E-14)
      7. Monitor fiscal controls and communicate discrepancies or irregularities to management in a timely manner.
      8. Track grant utilization with continuous budget to actual tracking.
      9. Actively participate in the annual financial audit by preparing and explaining schedules as needed. 
      10. Routinely analyze and explain expenditure variances to budget and trends.
      11. Establish and build effective and productive relationships with the field and other departments.
      12. Complete special projects as assigned while completing routine tasks on a timely basis.
      13. Maintain confidentiality and safeguard the operations of business.
      14. Responsible for company’s charitable giving initiatives

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    The department will start with this position and grow as we expand grant capacity.

    Essential Qualifications:

    Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience.  CPA a plus.

     

    Required Knowledge: Understanding of GAAP.

    Understanding of GAS.

    Knowledge of computer and Internet applications, accounting systems.

                                                                Understanding of budget and reporting requirements.

     

    Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.  

    Management of $3M+ in annual Grants

    Single audit experience

    Healthcare and/or Public Accounting experience a plus.

     

    Skill and Ability: Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills. Attention to detail and solid organizational skills.

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Office suite of products.  Advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel.  Great Plains experience preferred. Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity.

Job or State Requirements

Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of accounting and general ledger experience required. Management of annual Grants Required. Single audit experience required. Healthcare and/or Public Accounting experience a plus.
